Barbara's memorial service and burial took place last weekend with friends and family from across the globe attending both in person and via Zoom. There were many tears, but also lots of laughter, stories and hugs. We are so grateful that we were able to gather together in this way to mark the end of her life here on earth. We grieve together with so many families that had to delay or cancel these important rituals during COVID.

Per her wishes, Barbara was not transported in a hearse, but in the back of a pickup truck.

Her desire was to be laid to rest in a simple, beautiful place in nature. The Parkville Cemetery, just outside of Redding was the perfect spot. This historic, pioneer cemetery has graves dating back to the mid-1800's. The land is dotted with ancient oak trees and native grasses. It is quiet and serene. It is also no-frills, so she was lowered into the grave by a collection of strong friends and family members. Having these simple acts performed by her "village" as opposed to hired strangers felt intimate and appropriate. She was such a servant during her life with us, it was a gift to be able to serve her in these small ways, carrying out her final wishes.

If you missed the service on Saturday, you can watch a recording here

And finally, if you are 50+ and you aren't up to date on your colonoscopy, we beg of you to not delay this important screening. As with every type of cancer, early detection is key.
